simply snap the strikezone pocket knocker lure retriever on your line and let it slide down to your lure. comments: i agree with the positive reviews. just clip it on the line, troll over to the snag and jig up like a spoon. just kidding – i get hung up quite a bit comments: i never leave the dock without a couple of these on the boat. i like to position the boat as directly over the hung bait as i can, then snap one on my line and drop it on a tight line, when i think it’s almost to the bait i will lower the rod to put some slack in it right as it contacts the bait. for the life of me i could not get it to slide down the line to my stuck lure. would like to see an enclosed snap ring that didn’t have the wire sticking out thou.. comments: i fished a lot as a co-angler this year.
comments: instead of fizzing your fish, tie one of these onto your line, put the weight down the fishes gullet, push it in up to the wire, don’t go deeper than that. the pointy shape lends itself to this free spool and let the fish sink down to the bottom, then give gentle tug and the fish goes free. used on a heavy tungsten worm rig to get out of rocks in a 30+ft deep hole, then used it on a big sk 8.0 magnum to get it out of a tree. keep one tied to the boat, one in my pocket, and a spare clipped on to each tackle bag. i share mine with friends and everyone has been happily amazed at how well it works. been living under a rock for the last five years using a pole lure retriever. with these so far i have been 100% in about 15 uses. easy to clip on and off and takes up very little space unlike other lure retrievers.from: kieran: howell, mi * price comparisons are based on the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (“msrp”) or original selling price.
i especially hate losing that crankbait and a $5 plug knocker because unfortunately, plug knockers don’t always get the job done and at times become collateral damage themselves. a plug knocker is a heavy object with a clip on it that you can clip around your line and drop down to your bait. if not, you can bounce your rod tip up and down, allowing the knocker to repeatedly pull down against the hooks and that will usually lead to a successful retrieval of the bait. but a lot of the old-school guys used to take spark plugs, slip a clip in the gap and then roll the gap shut. take the unoccupied end of the swivel and slide it into the gap of the spark plug then roll the gap shut. the 2-ounce ones are probably sufficient and certainly a little cheaper.
the only issue with the heavier weights is that you don’t want to just start snatching on your bait once you drop a 4-ounce weight on it or else you’ll break your line pretty quickly. all you need in addition to the weight is a clip that opens on both ends. a smaller clip is more apt to tangle the line up when you let it go slack on the fall and that impairs the action of the plug knocker. this way your knocker has a clear path to the bait and you will get the most force possible upon collision. if you were to attach the plug knocker to your line and release it from more of a horizontal position, the knocker won’t have near the speed when it reaches the bait or will likely collide with other cover before ever making it to the bait. you just ease up to the cover, drop it down and reel your bait back up. better yet, just go ahead and put a few plug knockers in the boat right now before your hardheaded self is faced with that situation and you decide to take the plunge.
