blob fly pattern

igot my first taste of blob fishing about 15 years ago when curtis and i were fishing a local stillwater out of our 13′ tin can of a boat (that almost killed us that day), and we were fishing next to ryan barnes who had been pretty active in the competition angling scene. it would be about 12 or 13 years until i’d really look further into that fly, and the techniques that were involved in fishing it, but it’s become a staple in my stillwater boxes, especially for waters with stocked rainbow trout. there really isn’t much to the technique of tying this fly, but we still get lots of questions about how to tie them (so we made a video).

i fish them most on a midge tip line, 15 to 18 foot leader, and a three fly rig (flies are about 5 to 6 feet apart). on a blob rig, i like the blob as the top of middle dropper, and something heavier on the point to ensure that my presentation is tight and somewhat vertical. as with many of these crazy bright flies like the blob, fab, and boobies, there are many different techniques you can use to fish them, and they are a must in your fly arsenal!

in england, the blob is as effective as it is controversial. every stillwater fly fisher should reserve a few parking spots for gaudy attractors such as the blob for just these occasions. fritz is not a widely known or available product in north america. 15mm fritz is the most widely used size and comes in a myriad of colours from soft pastels such as peach and coral to bright fluorescent yellow, pink and hot orange. strip the fibers off one end of the fritz and tie in place. to reduce bulk, pinch and hold the fritz in place at the tie off point.

with the head area clean and tidy build up a slightly oversized head of bright or fluorescent thread to serve as an additional trigger point. the booby ban is not a result of potentially injuring trout. to circumvent this ban, creative tyers moved the foam cord used to form booby eyes to the blob’s tail section creating a buoyant back end. strip one end of a length of fluorescent yellow 15mm gel core fritz to expose the core. prepare a length of hot orange 15mm fritz in the same fashion as the rear body section. once the body is complete use pinch and hold the fritz in place with your left thumb and forefinger.

there really isn’t much to the technique of tying this fly, but we still get lots of questions about how to tie them (so we made a video). blobs are simple to tie. consisting of nothing more than a short tail tightly packed fritz body tied on a stout wide gape hook. straight eye the blob fly is a short and bulky trout fly made from colourful (often orange) fritz wrapped around a short shank wide gape hook. it’s often, blob fly materials, blob fly materials, best blob fly colours, how to fish a blob fly, blob fly for sale.

most blob patterns are tied on wide-gap scud or egg hooks in sizes 12 and 10. clusters of suspended zooplankton are fairly motionless in the water. this allows you to present blob patterns suspended under a strike indicator in much the same way as fishing a chironomid. the “blob or blob booby” is a pattern that evokes strong feelings and emotions in almost every fly fisherman. it’s a “marmite” fly that you i’ve found that the easiest way to tie blob fritz is to perform one wrap of fritz around the hook shank, then wet your fingers and stroke the fritz fibres back the booby fly is a fairly simple pattern to fish. it can be fished in all parts of a lake, in both shallow water and deeper water. regardless of, tungsten blob fly, tequila blob fly pattern, blob fly fishing, fritz fly tying material, blob flies, blob fritz fly tying, fab fly, fishing the blob fly videos, blob pattern generator, blob fly ice fishing.
